Rickenbacker Animal Export Facility
Airport Hangar Renovation
Palmetto Construction Services was awarded Hangar 596 renovations at Rickenbacker Airport in January 2018. The project included renovating part of an airplane hangar to construct an Animal Export Inspection Facility. The facility will house livestock and horses for a final inspection before being exported out of the US. The new facility will allow for less trucking of the animals and a safe, quiet place for them to rest before being exported to their destination.
One of the challenges faced by Palmetto was installing a new drainage system. While digging underneath the floor they came across an old runway strip, which meant in order to install the drainage system they would need to remove the runway section. Even after the many man-hours it took to remove the old runway, Palmetto was able to complete the project on-time.
The project was completed in June 2018.
