The COSI Dinosaur Exhibit
Big Reptiles. Bigger Buildout.
Palmetto Construction Services was the proud contractor for the amazing new Dinosaur Exhibitat the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio. Now open to the public, this extensive, prehistoric wonder, featuring the Stegosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus Rex, took six months to complete. PCS performed all demolition and drywalling as well as installation of ceiling tiles, doors, and metal framing. We gave them new mechanicals and infrastructure and installed a new acoustical ceiling and suspension system. Plus, we constructed new display walls for graphics installation.
The Biggest Challenge
According to superintendent, Terry Hindel, the most challenging part was the demolition. “We had to demolish two levels from the old exhibit without destroying anything around us.” It took three to four months (of the total six) to complete this portion of the project. Another challenge was filling a 30’ x 50’ gravel pit area with concrete. “The area was so large, it took PCS extra time to fill it in,” Hindel said, “which ended up causing a delay in the carpet installation.” Nevertheless, the exhibit opened on November 18, 2017 and continues to draw crowds from all over the region.
